About us

From our offices in Farnborough we provide a full range of accountancy & audit, business, and taxation services throughout Hampshire and Surrey, actually throughout the UK and internationally too, and were established over 25 years ago.

We are an ACCA practice – regulated by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, registered as auditors in the United Kingdom, and as a training practice.

The world of accountancy and taxation draws yawns and groans from most but we’re fascinated by it, and good at it, which is great for you as we’ll happily take care of your statutory requirements, relieving you of the burden of bureaucracy so that you can concentrate on what’s important to you.

And we’re more than just tax and accountancy experts - we’re here to support and advise our clients. Our wealth of experience will help you and your business from the very beginning, we’ll guide you as your business develops, and we’ll still be here with planning advice when you decide it’s time to retire.

You don’t need to have a business to take advantage of our tax expertise - your personal tax affairs will benefit from our advice whatever your circumstances.

Lloyd Jones - Partner

Lloyd Jones

Everything you’ve ever wanted in an accountant – and more, a sense of humour! With more than 30 years’ accountancy and business experience he is invaluable in the day to day running of your business and in its transitions.

He’s also direct, forthright, tenacious, and technically unsurpassed as HMRC have found to their cost – not many can boast a letter of apology from the Chairman of the Board of HMRC. Taking on the Child Support Agency at Tribunal Level and winning – the judges agreed with Lloyd. Refusing to allow Customs & Excise to wriggle out of repaying £180,000 of VAT – Lloyd knows the law as well as they do – it took over 3 years but they were made to pay, and costs too. Very relieved and happy clients, grateful that Lloyd is, as one District Inspector described him, like a terrier in defence of his clients.

He’s also an Expert Court Witness in divorce and valuation litigation cases where, whatever the complexity, his common sense helps others to see the real issues clearly. He has given evidence in Magistrates, County, High, and Crown Courts.

Lloyd founded the practice in 1987, with Sylvia, and prior to that was in practice himself for 6 years. His first career was in the Inland Revenue where he was part of the team that set up the first Special Office, selecting and investigating the tax affairs of the rich and famous and making the headlines in the Daily Mirror over a particular band which is still touring, but not as often as its tribute bands!

Iain Goodhew – Partner

Iain Goodhew

Iain is calm and incredibly patient which makes it easy to get to grips with those tricky little issues – like “what do my accounts mean?!” So many clients come to us not knowing how their accounts can shape their future but it doesn’t take long with Iain before they’re saying “Ah, I understand the accounts now”. Making the right business decisions just got easier.

Not everyone has a full working knowledge of how businesses work, and what they could and should do to make all their hard efforts worthwhile, but Iain does. Whatever your business and whatever your experience you’ll benefit from his advice.

In addition to rock solid business sense he has special interests, obsessions really, in money and cars. As in, not wasting any money at all, including tax and accountancy fees, so be prepared for him to guide you in the right direction! And cars: which, when, and how to choose to make the most of tax allowances, and which cars you shouldn’t be seen driving!

Having started his career in banking, Iain quickly decided that accountancy was his preferred profession. It was the right decision and from the moment he joined Jones & Co in 1992 his talents shone out. He’s been a partner in the practice since 2001 and became a Fellow of the ACCA in 2002.

Sylvia Palmer

Sylvia Palmer

Another gamekeeper turned poacher, Sylvia started life in the Inland Revenue working at a number of offices in the South East ending up at Head Office dealing with referred “problem” cases but finally seeing the light in 1987 being an essential part of growing Jones & Co ever since.

Sylvia’s experience and natural tenacity makes her ideally suited to handling disputes about employment and contractor status, and other HMRC enquiries. She also runs the Tax Investigation Service.

She also looks after the tax affairs of personal clients, hand-holding and guiding them through the paper jungle, eats Tax Investigations for breakfast and takes on the world on behalf of clients - she isn’t squeamish about telling it like it is and can be very firm when required!

As well as running the tax department, Sylvia is also the Practice Manager, the HR manager, the IT manager, the building manager, a stickler for everything, a trouble shooter for clients, and drinks lots of tea. Spare moments are all spent on the golf course and thinking wistfully about gardening – if only there was the time!
